We've noticed that more SureSmile files are being uploaded to EasyRx for basing and labeling work. However, sometimes the SureSmile STL files don't work correctly in EasyRx 3D. We did some research with SureSmile to understand the issue, and here's what we found:
SureSmile has a process called "Print Optimization" that prepares STL files for 3D printing. This process does three things: it merges individual objects in the STL file into one, adds a solid base, and includes an engraved label.
EasyRx 3D requires the "print optimized" files to function properly. The good news is that Print Optimization is enabled by default.
However, there's a catch: SureSmile offers three different areas from which you can export files:
1. Aligner Staging Screen
2. Main Patient Record
3. 3D Screen (if using "Advanced features")
Only the export from the Aligner Staging Screen provides the print optimized file that EasyRx 3D can work with. The Main Patient Record and 3D Screen exports contain individual objects for each tooth in the STL files, which EasyRx 3D can't handle. Additionally, the file names are very similar, regardless of where they're exported from.
So, if you're having trouble basing or labeling SureSmile files in EasyRx 3D, we have a couple of suggestions for you:
1. Make sure you export the files from the Aligner Staging Screen.
2. Contact SureSmile Support to confirm that Print Optimization is enabled.
We hope this information is helpful. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions.
