In the EasyRx November Update, we made a number of changes to how templates work. The goal these changes were to give both labs and practices more control over who can access and edit templates. Here's the changes from our November update:
Practice template changes:
Prescription Templates can be created and assigned to all labs or specific labs.
You can grant ownership of templates to a lab-- Allowing you to transfer editing rights to the lab.
You can now copy a template, creating a new template with a new name.
Lab template changes:
You can now copy a template, creating a new template with a new name.
Templates can now be assigned to:
All practices
Certain practices
A specific practice
Since releasing the update, we’ve had a few questions on the new template changes and how they impact day to day use of EasyRx. We’ve put together some FAQs to help clarify. We’ve also outlined some pending changes we are working on now and plan to release in December:
Q- I am a practice, why can’t I edit lab created templates?
The November update included changes so lab created templates are no longer editable by practices. We made this change for a couple reasons:
-Since templates can now be assigned to multiple practices, we did not want multiple practices editing the same template.
- We had issues where a lab would get one of their templates edited “just right” and a practice would subsequently edit the template, making changes that impacted the lab.
Understanding that practices need to edit templates, we added the Copy function. To edit a lab created template, a practice copies to template, creating a practice template which can be edited by the practice This template can then be assigned to one or all of the labs the practices does business
Pending change scheduled for December 2015 update:
If a lab-created template is assigned to one practice, the lab can chose to allow the practice to edit the template.
Q - I asked my lab to edit one of my templates, but they are unable to edit the template.
Practice templates now have ownership rights. And ownership rights are required to edit a practice template. By default, practices have ownership rights to all of their templates. If a lab does not have ownership rights, the lab can still use the template to create a RX, but the template will not display in the lab’s Template Manager and the lab cannot edit the template. If the practice would like a lab to edit a template, it must grant ownership rights to the lab.
Pending change scheduled for December 2015 update:
Even If the lab is not the owner of a practice template, the template will now show in the Template Manager. The lab can view the template, but not edit. In View mode, the lab can copy the template, creating a new template that can be edited.
Q - Why did you move Templates from below the Prescription Workspace?
With the addition of appliances, we thought the workflow made sense to have Parts, Appliances and Templates grouped together on the left hand panel. We also integrated Search to search templates.
Pending change scheduled for December 2015 update:
If templates exist, the Library will default to templates chosen so you’ll not need to click templates to search templates.
Q - I’m a lab, why do I see templates on the Workspace and not in the Template Manager?
When creating an Rx for a practice, a lab can use the practice’s template to create the Rx. Since this template is owned by the practice, the lab cannot edit the template and will not show in the Template Manager. To edit the template, the lab has two choices:
-Ask the practice to grant them ownership of the template, allowing the lab to edit
-Create a new template
Pending change scheduled for December 2015 update:
Even if the lab is not the owner of a practice template, the template will now show in the Template Manager. The lab can view the template, but not edit. In View mode, the lab can copy the template, creating a new template that can be edited.
The lab has created a template and marked it available to more than just your practice. It is either a global template or a template assigned to multiple practices. Being global or multiple, it displays in the available templates for all practices connected to the lab.
We re-organized the Prescription Workspace in the November 2015 update. Now that Parts, Appliances and Templates are together on the left side of the Workspace, search will search all three items. For example, if you search "lingual", the search will return all parts, appliances and templates with “lingual”.
Pending change scheduled for December 2015 update:
At the end the search results, (P), (A), (T) will be displayed, noting it as a part, appliance or template.
Q - I’m a lab tech. I created a template and it is not showing up under the practice I designed it for. Where did it go?
By default, newly created templates are assigned to more than one practice, not a specific practice. Until the template is assigned to a specific practice, the template will not display when viewing templates for a specific practice.
Pending change scheduled for December 2015 update:
When viewing templates for a specific practice, all templates assigned to the practice, including global, multiple or single will be displayed in the Template Manager
