Requirements: You must have an EasyRx monthly or annual subscription of EasyRx Practice Standard or Standard + EasyRx 3D or Premium
Users now have the ability to integrate EasyRx with Dolphin! The integration, which applies to both Dolphin Imaging and Dolphin Management, allows you to launch EasyRx from Dolphin and open existing patients or add new patients to EasyRx just a few clicks!
Also, with the integration, you will gain the ability to use the Dolphin Document Organizer to push the EasyRx Prescription as a PDF back into the Patient's chart!
Fine print: Dolphin Management 7.0.5881 or higher or Dolphin Imaging 11.9 Build 8 or higher required. If you don't have these versions, email support@dolphinimaging.com to request these versions.
If you run the DOLPHIN CLOUD version, you will need to contact us at support@easyrxortho, there is a different setup procedure that must be done to enable it for cloud-based dolphin users.
We recommend using Google Chrome for the smoothest EasyRx experience.
There are two ways to configure the integration - Please scroll down to the appropriate section to get started
Section 1 - Use the Dolphin Integration Setup Program
Section 2 - Manually configure the integration
Section 3 - Using the Integration
Section 1 - Use the Dolphin Integration Setup Program
At the bottom of this article, there is a .ZIP file you will need to download. The .ZIP contains 1 file:
-The setup program itself in the form of an executable application.
Close out of Dolphin Imaging and Dolphin Management before running this file.
Note: The program will code the integration for Google Chrome by default. If Google Chrome is not installed on your machine, it will then will check and code for FireFox. If Firefox is not on the machine, it will finally code it to open with Internet Explorer. If you do not use any of these browsers, please contact us as support@easyrxortho.com to tell us which browser you use by default, and we will follow up with the proper code.
You will need to double click/run the [Dolphin Integration Setup] file. We recommend doing so 'as an administrator' to prevent any errors. You may get the following message (most likely if you are running Windows 10). If you get this message, please click [More Info].
Then click on [Run Anyway]. Don't worry, Windows simply provides this message as it is a protocol when trying to run custom applications. The EasyRx development team has made sure the file is safe for running. You will see the [Publisher] listed as EasyRx for validation.
There may be another pop-up afterwards asking if you will allow this program to make changes, please be sure to click [Yes].
You will then have the integration application appear on your screen. Click [Enable]. The process should only take a couple seconds.
You should get this message when done.
You are now done with the setting up the integration.
Proceed to Section 3 to see additional notes and how to use the integration
FAQ:
My computer says "This program may not have installed properly"?
On certain versions of Windows, you may get this message after running the installer. Go ahead and move on to Section 3 to test it. Just ignore this message / close it out, as long as you have seen the "Integration completed successfully" message, you should be all set!
Section 2 - Manually configure the integration
Setup
The integration in Dolphin is enabled by adding the integration details to the DOLPHIN.IN. On each Dolphin machine needing EasyRx integration, do the following:
Before you start - please close out of Dolphin Imaging and Dolphin Management and also the Dolphin Updater if it's running in the background.
1. Copy the attached EasyRx logo (located at the bottom of this article) to \DOLPHIN\BUTTONS folder on each computer
2. Find and Edit the DOLPHIN.INI file - it may also be named Dolphin with the [File Type] listed as [Configuration Settings] as shown below in the screenshot. Double-Click to open it. If it asks you to choose a default program to use, select Wordpad or Notepad.
OPTION 1- If you use Google Chrome: Use the following code (copy and paste the red text below into your Dolphin.ini file). If a [Toolbar] section does not exist, please add the black [Toolbar] text as well. Be sure to [save] the text when you are done. Please search the dolphin.ini (using Ctrl+f) to see if a [toolbar] line exists. If one exists but you add the code and create a new [toolbar] line, dolphin will only read the first [toolbar] line which may result in you not seeing your other existing integration programs. If you see a [toolbar] line exist, only add the red portion of the code below where it already has [toolbar] in your dolphin.ini.
[Toolbar]
EasyRx=EasyRx,Start EasyRx,C:\Dolphin\Buttons\easyrx.bmp,C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe "https://app.easyrxortho.com/i/d?PatientGUID={PatientGUID}&PatientID={PatientID}&PatientFirstName={PatientFirstName}&PatientLastName={PatientLastName}&PatientBirthdate={PatientBirthdate}&NextApptDateTime={NextApptDateTime}&NextMinutes={NextApptMinutes}&NextTypeCode={NextApptTypeCode}&NextTypeDesc={NextApptTypeDesc}&NextLocation={NextApptLocation}"
OPTION 2- If you use FireFox: Use the following code (copy and paste the red text below into your Dolphin.ini file).

OPTION 3 - If you use Internet Explorer: Use the following code (copy and paste the red text below into your Dolphin.ini file). If a [Toolbar] section does not exist, please add the black [Toolbar] text as well. Be sure to [save] the text when you are done. Please search the dolphin.ini (using Ctrl+f) to see if a [toolbar] line exists. EasyRx=EasyRx,Start EasyRx,C:\Dolphin\Buttons\easyrx.bmp,C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe "https://app.easyrxortho.com/i/d?PatientGUID={PatientGUID}&PatientID={PatientID}&PatientFirstName={PatientFirstName}&PatientLastName={PatientLastName}&PatientBirthdate={PatientBirthdate}&NextApptDateTime={NextApptDateTime}&NextMinutes={NextApptMinutes}&NextTypeCode={NextApptTypeCode}&NextTypeDesc={NextApptTypeDesc}&NextLocation={NextApptLocation}"
NOTES:
If you have not specified the browser the DOLPHIN.INI, the default browser is used. For example, your computer may open browser windows using FireFox by default, when you actually like to use Google Chrome. Go into whichever browser you prefer and find the settings to make it your "Default Browser". Your office's IT or Computer/Systems Admin should know how to do this.
If you click on the EasyRx button inside of the Dolphin integrations button and nothing happens, you will need to double check the file path inside the Dolphin INI for your browser. EasyRx=EasyRx,Start EasyRx,C:\Dolphin\Buttons\easyrx.bmp,C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
Sometimes the Browser program is located inside of C:\Program Files\ directory, not the C:\Program Files (x86). You can find the file path of your browser by Right clicking your browser icon -> clicking [Properties] -> Shortcut
That "Target" field is the file path that needs to be inside the Dolphin.ini code for the integration. So if the code is ,C:\Dolphin\Buttons\easyrx.bmp,C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
You will want to REPLACE the highlighted yellow text with the one shown in the "Target" area of your shortcut properties for the browser.
If you are using Dolphin Management and Imaging from Terminal Server / Citrix Server: You need to update the Dolphin.INI file in the DOLPHIN folder and any user profiles with a DOLPHIN.INI.
Section 3 - Using the Integration
Once the EasyRx integration is configured, the EasyRx logo will show on the [Integrations] tab in Dolphin Management:
Here is where it appears in Dolphin Imaging:
Go to the Integration tab and click [EasyRx]
-If patient is not in context, when the EasyRx icon is clicked, you'll be prompted to lookup the patient. One the patient is chosen, Dolphin Management passes the information to EasyRx
-If the patient is in context, say Treatment Card or Patient Information is open for the patient, information for this patient is passed to EasyRx. There is no need to lookup the patient again in Dolphin.
Using the integration from Dolphin Imaging
-With a patient record open, click on the EasyRx icon on the toolbar. Dolphin Imaging passes the patient fields to EasyRx.
EasyRx takes the information passed from Dolphin and either finds the patient in EasyRx or adds a new patient record in EasyRx.
Patient exists in EasyRx
The patient record opened is found in EasyRx, EasyRx opens the edit a patient screen. From here you can view the prescription history, create a Rx or attach a STL file and so forth:
Patient not found in EasyRx:
-If the patient is not found, the following screen is displayed
From this screen you can connect to an existing patient or create a new patient
If the patient does exist in EasyRx, but EasyRx was unable to automatically link to the patient, you can manually link the patient. Click [Select Patient] under Connect Patient Records, lookup the patient and click [Connect]:
This will link the patient record in Dolphin with the patient record in EasyRx. Going forward, the patient record will open automatically when opened using the integration.
If the patient does not exist in EasyRx, click [Create] to add the patient. EasyRx will add the patient record and update the fields in EasyRx. And link the patient record in Dolphin with the patient record in EasyRx
Once the patient is manually linked or added, EasyRx opens to the Edit Patient screen.
NOTES:
- The integration is a push integration, meaning Information is EasyRx is updated when the patient is opened from Dolphin and the EasyRx integration button is clicked. For example, if you make a new appointment for the patient in Dolphin, you need to use the Integration button again for EasyRx to pull the patient's new appointment data into EasyRx. As long as you open patients from Dolphin first, you'll be fine.
- The integration does not auto-update appointment dates for EasyRx prescription already [Saved] or [Submitted] to your labs.
- The Next Appointment fields are only passed to EasyRx if the patient is opened from Dolphin Management.
- If the current appointment for a specific patient in EasyRx is later than the appointment date in Dolphin Management, the appointment information will not updated in EasyRx. This is intentional behavior in case your staff forgets to update the appointment in Dolphin.
Explanation of our code:
